60 CFP (crediti formativi professionali, the Italian CPD credits) over the triennio, the three-year training period, 12 of them on professional ethics, rules of the profession and legality. There is no yearly minimum: the CNAPPC, the national council of Italian architects, recommends 20 CFP a year, 4 of them on ethics.
At most 40 ordinary credits and 8 ethics credits carry over to the next three-year period. Credits missing from the 2023-2025 period can be made up until December 31, 2026.
The obligation ends in the three-year period in which you turn 70. There are exemptions for maternity, paternity, adoption or foster care (24 months), for serious illness or injury and for force majeure.
If you do not practice at all, meaning no VAT number and no Inarcassa membership (the pension fund of architects and engineers), you have no training obligation.

To practice you must hold at least 30 CFP at all times. Each year 30 are deducted (15 if you register in the second half of the year) and you can bank up to 120. Since 2026 the rules are those of the Testo Unico 2026.0 of the CNI, the national council of Italian engineers.
Each year you can self-certify 15 CFP of informal learning, by March 31 of the following year. New members must earn 5 CFP in ethics and professional conduct by the end of the year after they register.

Not keeping up to date is a disciplinary offense (DPR 137/2012, art. 7). For architects, the Ordine checks within 120 days of the end of the three-year period and reports anyone short of credits to its disciplinary board (Consiglio di disciplina). For engineers, proceedings concern those who practiced without the 30 CFP.
